This weekend marked the 80% complete mark of the 2014-15 NHL Season. With the homestretch upon us and several teams fighting for their lives to make the playoffs, I looked at the historical standings at the 80% complete mark over the last 5 full seasons.
In 2013-14, only one team that was in a playoff position at the 80% complete mark, failed to qualify for the playoffs, the Toronto Maple Leafs. At the 80% mark, they had an 8 point lead on the last team out of the playoffs. 8 points was the largest collapse of a team in playoff position that failed to qualify for the season at the end of the regular season.
