Quick and dirty post here. James Mirtle got me thinking about how opening day rosters compare to the last 5 years draft classes by team.
Here is graphical representation of how the last 5 year averages over the first 5 rounds draft class compares to the Opening Day Rosters.
All teams “beefed” up between their draft classes and their opening rosters but the Islanders only gained 4 pounds compared to their average draft weight while St. Louis gained the most weight by adding 21 pounds.
Height is a different story, 9 teams got smaller while the 20 teams got bigger. Interesting enough, St. Louis lost 1.4 inches of height while Tampa Bay added an inch and half.
No surprise when you look at weight and height by round, it drops.
…but one of the coolest things I saw was the drop in weight of round 1 picks over the years. You think this has anything to do with the “New NHL”? Yep, I thought so too!
